Gary Vaynerchuk & Jeff J Hunter: Creating Content
Attendees at Digital Agency Expo caught a real exchange between Gary Vaynerchuk and me on their phones. Gary liked it enough to name a keynote after it, and then an episode of his own podcast. That's not something you can pitch for.
The Story Behind It
None of this was professionally filmed. Sammy ShoeBox, Rachel Michaelov, Todd Crockett, Pamela Sisson, Cindy and Kimanzi Constable, and Jena Apgar all took pictures and video from the audience, and my team pieced it together afterward. Kimanzi is the same writer Business Insider later paired me with for the as-told-to piece on this page, small world.
Gary titled his own keynote and podcast episode "A Complete 2020 Marketing Strategy That Requires No Budget," built around the same idea he's repeated for years:
"Document, Don't Create." Or, more bluntly: "Show the F%$# up and pump out content."
I got dozens of messages from people who'd heard the two of us in that clip before I ever posted my own cut of it. That's the whole argument for content in one accident: the exchange existed before I controlled the distribution.
Why This One Matters
Gary Vaynerchuk doesn't need to name a keynote after anyone. He has more inbound content than he could ever use. Naming one after this exchange, unprompted, is a different kind of signal than a guest slot or a quote in an article, and it's the moment that pushed me to finally launch the Savage Marketer podcast that January.
