500K to 7 Figures: How VA Staffer Really Got Built

Business Insider ran the VA Staffer story in August 2022 under one number: $500,000 in revenue. By the time the article published, we'd already passed it. Three months later, the whole business changed anyway.
The Business Before the Headline
VA Staffer started in 2014 as a side project inside a full-time job, a scrappy virtual team built to solve one problem: talented sales and marketing people wasting their most expensive hours on the lowest-value work. I've told the fuller story of how that side project became the reason I quit a six-figure career elsewhere (read it here). By 2022, VA Staffer was a real company: a Philippines-based team of Executive Assistants, run on standard operating procedures instead of a manager standing over anyone's shoulder.
The Number That Was Already Old
Business Insider covered the business at $500,000 in revenue. It was accurate. It was also stale, because we'd already crossed that figure by the time the piece went live. Press runs on a lag, and $500K made a clean headline. It was never the ceiling. It was a marker on the way somewhere else.

Three Months Later, Everything Changed
In November 2022, ChatGPT shipped. I was on a plane to the Philippines within weeks, not to hire more people, but to rebuild how the team already there worked. VA Staffer had spent eight years proving a well-trained human team could run itself. The question now was different: what happens when that same team has AI Employees working alongside it, not instead of it?
That question is where the AI Persona Method came from, a direct response to watching a real staffing business collide with a new kind of leverage in real time.
Humans Plus AI, Not Humans Versus AI
The easy narrative is that AI replaces human teams. VA Staffer is the counter-example. The Executive Assistants stayed. What changed is what they stopped having to do by hand: research, first drafts, reporting, the repetitive parts of the job that ate hours without needing a human's judgment. AI Employees like Beau, who now runs the entire blog at ai.vastaffer.com without a ghostwriter, took over the production work. The humans kept the parts that need a human: client relationships, judgment calls, the work only a person can actually own.
Where It Sits Now
VA Staffer crossed seven figures in the years since that Business Insider feature ran. The AI Persona Method, the framework born out of that November 2022 pivot, is now what I teach other founders to build for themselves inside AI Money Group.
Business Insider got the number right. They just caught it mid-sentence.
